Ukraine, a country located in Eastern Europe, is the second largest country on the Eurpoean Continent. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv, split in two parts by the Dnieper River, a city with an ancient and proud history. Ukraine means land of wide, fertile agricultural plains and large pockets of heavy industry in the east at the same time. Enormous, varied and barely discovered, Ukraine is a last genuine travel frontiers in Europe, a nation possessing colorful traditions and inhabited by warm-hearted people. Furthermore, the country has mountain ranges, the Carpathians, which provides wide varieties for travelers interested in hiking, skiing, fishing and hunting. The coastline of the Black sea is quite popular for holidaymakers. Additionally, the Ukrainian cuisine is a large collection of Ukraine’s people cooking traditions.
Ukranian soup : Did you know that the popular Borscht sour-soup is the main pillar of the Ukrainian cuisine, and it is an ancient and maybe the most famous dish? Surprisingly, there are 30 varieties of this specialty.

Ingredients:

  • beef or pork
  • 3 medium beets
  • ½ medium head cabbage
  • 3 medium sized potatoes
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 medium onion
  • tomato paste
  • 1 liter water
  • garlic
  • bay leaves
  • salt and pepper
  • bread and sour cream to serve

Instructions (steps of cooking):

1st step
Make the broth that forms the basic liquid in order to prepare our Borsch. It is necessary to properly wash beef. Put it to the pan, pour cold water and boil it.

2nd step
While our broth boils remove the foam. Add salt, pepper to taste. Simmer the broth for 1.5 hours.

3rd step
After the broth is ready, remove meat, separate from bones and discard bones, finely chop and return the meat to the pot.

4th step
Shred the cabbage into small pieces. Peel and cube or slice up the potatoes, beets, onion and carrots, too. It is necessary to put the prepared cabbage into our broth with bay leaves and peppercorn. During this time, take your frying pan and stir fry the onion and carrots in a bit of olive oil until its turn glassy. It takes about 5 minutes.

5th step
Add the beets with more oil and fry them for another 5 minutes. Place the vegetables into to the pan with tomato paste and salt. Our last step is to make the flavor with garlic, pepper, salt and other seasonings. Cook about 20 minutes, taste it and add some more seasonings if needed.
