Although it is the third smallest country in the Middle East, Lebanon can offer a lot of interesting things for the visiting tourists. There is a fascinating mix of tradition and modern achievements, Christianity and Islam. The French influence is strongly felt in Lebanon, the official language of the country was French until 1943. It boasts wonderful beaches and is also home to Byblos, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city. Unfortunately, many of its areas were devastated by the civil war, and some parts are still dangerous to visit. Lebanon’s ancient wine culture dates back more than 5,000 years, possibly as far back as 7,000 BC. Red wines account for most of the output, made from southern French grapes such as Carignan, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Shish Taouk is a well-known chicken skewer food.Originally, this dish was a part of Ottoman (Turkish) Cuisine, and became a popular dish in many parts of the Middle East during the Ottoman’s rule starting 1516 and through 1918, in the case of Lebanon.
Fattoush salad is a wide spread salad served usually with Shish Taouk or beef kafta. Althought is a salad with bread, You may add “pita” to make it complete.
